“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Obedience is better than sacrifice, a listening ear than the fat of rams.
1 Samuel 15:22 MEV
When I was very young in the community, George, our builder invited me for coffee to get to know me. He asked me why I was serving in the Feast. I told him that I have been very sinful and I want to makeup for all the wrong I have done in my lifevand for the wrong I kept committing. He looked at me with so much love and concern and told me that I should never look at my service to God as a way to repay Him or to make amends. He told that service is not about that.
This was years ago.
The above verse, kept coming back to me as I have been serving God constantly. I have relfected and learned that God does not need me to serve Him, to do things for Him, to worship Him. He is God and He is above everything.
The service I do is more for me to keep myself aware of God, His will, His presence. When I worship and pray that keeps me aligned, grounded and in awe of Him.
And though all these are good. God only wants for me to obey Him. Take heed of His word and will. My true reverence is not from what I do to take care of His business but from humbling myself, dying to myself and being obedience. The true freewill is abiding in the nature that God created me as, which is good.
